Are You Ready to Serve in the Summer?
Interested in serving as a VISTA Summer Associate in the summer of 2019? Please read the following to ensure that serving as a VSA is right for you!
The VISTA Summer Associate (VSA) program serves as a complement to the traditional, full-year AmeriCorps VISTA program. VSA members serve with organizations on a specific project that aims to empower individuals, families and communities to overcome poverty.
VSAs serve full-time (typically 40 hours a week) for eight weeks in the summer. Because of the relatively short term of service, VSAs are not given any vacation or sick leave during their eight weeks of service. However, they are granted holidays (i.e. 4th of July) honored by their host sites.
To support their service, VSAs receive a living allowance of $1,888.88 (prorated and paid every other Friday) and can choose between either a $276 cash award or a $1,289 Segal Education Award as an end-of-service award upon successful completion of service.
Eligible VSAs must be 18 years of age, a high school graduate (or have completed a GED) and a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien of the United States.
