The VISTA member will build from the first year VISTA’s work by building a robust volunteer recruitment and management program, plan and implement volunteer led curriculum for future programming, continue to develop the 3D printing program, and research and submit grant applications to assist in the sustainability and expansion of the program. The goal of the project is to implement multiple programs in low-income areas, to introduce and teach new technologies such as virtual reality, and to have participants create and invent on their own with the new technology. The VISTA will play a key role in outreach to area schools and youth. The VISTA’s role in the volunteer recruitment and management program will ensure the long-term success for the program.

Our VISTA will build relationships with individuals in our community through our Reach Out program to improve the wellness and economic conditions of Veterans and individuals living in poverty over the age of 45 by engaging them in The Center’s programs, events, and activities. The VISTA will be continuing to create relationships with agencies and organizations in our community. The VISTA will also research and implement fund development strategies to support new activities developed that will be focused on health education and wellness as well as developing a model to support scholarships for low-income members.

The VISTA will work alongside the Workforce Development Division to accomplish the following objectives: develop and implement marketing tools and strategies to expand the services to populations experiencing disparities, focusing on people with disabilities and at-risk youth; review and update a youth leadership curriculum to enhance civic leadership and workforce skills of youth; and create electronic orientation materials to assist in a broader reach to diverse populations resulting in more staff time for one-on-one client services.
VISTA Leaders must have completed at least one year of service as a national service member to be eligible for VISTA Leader position (i.e. VISTA, AmeriCorps State or National, Promise Fellows, Peace Corps, etc.) Position start date is flexible.
The VISTA Leader uses their national service experience to support 11 VISTA members “in the field” to help ensure their success by providing resources, serving as a liaison between VISTAs and the Initiative Foundation and organizing social and training events. Additionally, the VISTA Leader supports the VISTA Program Manager through outreach, reporting, evaluating outcomes, and training. The goal of this VISTA project is to research and develop an optimal plan of operations for our emergency housing program; create a comprehensive program plan that includes operations, program budget, and possible funding sources; and engage community stakeholders as program partners. In addition, the VISTA will continue the work of the 2017-18 VISTA member in volunteer program development. As a result of these efforts, our organization will increase the number of individuals and families experiencing homelessness served, provide increased quality services; and increase the successful outcomes for clients.

The VISTA member will research and develop outreach strategies to connect St. Cloud area Immigrant/Refugee Women & Girls to the Job Placement program, develop and implement a plan to recruit, train, and retain volunteers to support this program, and build collaborative relationships with local employers. VISTA member will also develop and implement an outreach plan to inform and engage families to participate in the Academic and Positive Developmental Support Program and develop and implement a plan to recruit, train, and coordinate program volunteers. The goal of this project is to build our volunteer capacity to support these critical programs aimed to break the cycle of poverty.

The VISTA member will receive extensive solar training and become familiar with the Minnesota and nationwide solar landscape. The VISTA will help build RREAL’s capacity for reducing energy poverty with solar energy by further scaling and refining a model to deploy Community Solar in collaboration with the federal Energy Assistance program. The VISTA will analyze past CS4CA installations to further develop program best practices, research and assemble other collaborators and resources required for continued project development and implementation, develop educational curriculum and materials so that youth and adults alike can learn about the model and energy poverty, and research and disseminate the model to interested stakeholders throughout the country.

The VISTA will research and compile summary information related to child protection reports and compare the information to poverty-related data so correlations between poverty and the increase in child protection reports can be identified and better understood. The VISTA will conduct community surveys in which a disproportionate amount of child protection reports are filed to gather information from community members that can identify gaps in services and gaps in core resources. VISTA member will work with the Community Health Administrator in developing a strategic plan for the public health team. This strategic plan will assist in understanding and meeting the community’s health needs specifically including identifying and assessing social determinants of health such as poverty and socioeconomic class. The goal of this work is to gather critical data to inform future decisions about the enhancement of services and allocation of resources to ensure the community’s needs are being met.

The Conflict Resolution Center (CRC) is recruiting a VISTA to work with our leadership to increase capacity to deliver quality programming to high risk youth in area schools. Our goal is to increase our volunteer roster. VISTA will identify potential outreach opportunities for recruiting new volunteers, research best practices for recruitment, develop strategies and materials to communicate volunteer benefits/opportunities. VISTA will develop and organize events, develop and execute plans for volunteer management and retention, develop scheduling and attendance protocol for volunteers in schools and develop and maintain relationships with school staff and administration to ensure open communication to identify issues and opportunities. VISTA will have opportunity to take training in civil and family mediation and restorative justice practices and participate in ongoing continuing education opportunities.

The VISTA will review and revise volunteer management practices at the four operations including recruitment, training, scheduling, leadership development and recognition. VISTA will work with the Development Committee on donor and fund development by building on a strong base of record keeping and improvements to donor recognition, research and develop an approach for fundraising for more significant capital items and ways to enhance revenue. VISTA will assist Lakes and Pines organization to review and refresh the current instrument and process used to collect data for their community needs assessment.

The VISTA member will further develop and launch our new food security and senior transportation programs. The VISTA will recruit a volunteer base to support these programs, develop marketing materials to promote them, work with community partners to engage participants, will develop systems to track participation, and will develop and implement tools to evaluate their effectiveness. In addition, the VISTA will develop and implement strategies to increase overall community engagement through the use of social media outreach, local media and other traditional media, the creation of new marketing materials and through presentations to local organizations.
